From Battle Cries to Friendships

Writer: Katie CampbellKatie Campbell

2020 was a year of "metamorphosis" for many of us. It was a shedding of worry and worldly concern and instead standing up for the Truth.

It was a year of speaking out in ways we never did before - and sometimes the attacks made us uncomfortable. For me personally, the attacks made me so uncomfortable, that I changed my Facebook name to Res O Lute - determination, purpose. It was my battle cry through the chaos of the riots and Covid during the summer of 2020.

My personal growth didn't start on social media. It started when I got off of it and did something. When I spoke out at County Board meetings, City council meetings, knocked on doors and made phone calls for local campaigns. When I met with others who cared and helped start WCFF.

From the beginning, we cared about making life better here in Winnebago County and we saw an avenue of opportunity. That avenue took work, at a lot of it: research, in person meetings, relationship building, creating a focus, money, time, mental energy - but you know what.... All of it was tremendously worth it because we made friends. So many new friends in a time where circumstances want to rip people apart.

WCFF's main focus was to make dramatic change at the County Board level. And we did that with 14 new conservative board members. We have an entirely new board. Our Personnel and Finance Committee and Judiciary and Public Safety Committee are now mostly conservative. Two of the most powerful committees at the County level.

Resolutions have been passed on day 1 to create more government transparency and community engagement.

Yet, now more than ever these new board members need your support. Email them a word or two of encouragement, or show up to the next board meeting if you can.

We need them, and the opposition is fierce.

Can't wait to meet more of you soon when we have our next wcff meeting. I assure you, getting involved will change your life - for the better. Be brave, the greatest impact you can make is in your own backyard. That is how we change the course of this nation.
